Hi friends! Golly jee gosh it’s been a crazy couple weeks. I’m sorry I don’t really say golly jee gosh, but for that second it felt right.
Anyway, life is pretty fantastic over on this little island. Are you starting to feel the “almost summer” excitement in the air? The weather was straight up gnarly for a week, then all of a sudden it turned incredible.
Remember a couple months ago when we talked about morning routines? This was right after I had finished the 12 week Sweat with Kayla program and was starting to feel a little “off” with my schedule.
Breakfast:
Raspberry, banana smoothie with spinach and vega protein topped with nuttzo and granola
Since then, I’ve taken a totally different approach to my fitness routine and it’s made a dramatic difference in my happiness and energy levels.
Instead of following a strict exercise routine, I’ve been running most mornings before work. However, rather than strap on a Garmin or track these runs, I’ve been just running to run. I have no idea how far it’s been, or how fast I’m going. All I know is that it usually takes me about 30 minutes.
When I run like this in the morning, I feel so refreshed and energized. It feels like my special little “me-time” where I listen to my favorite songs, get a view of the ocean and start my day uncluttered by notifications and emails and Instagram. Some days I cruise, others I have to stop and walk a couple times.
Lunch:
I’ve never genuinely looked forward to workouts like I do now. Sure, I’m probably not burning the most calories or getting that much stronger or faster but right now I couldn’t give a shit. It feels like exactly what I needed from a morning routine and what I need from running right now.
I know I’ll want to start training for something down the line but right now it’s been such a positive way to start my day compared to the dread I was feeling about doing a HIIT workout.
Dinner:
Tacos with cheese, gardein chix, avocado, tomatoes, cilantro
For me, this is further evidence that every season in life can require a different kind of routine, whether that’s in your exercise, diet, social life, relationships. It’s ok to change and need something different. You don’t have to be in the best shape of your life every second to enjoy fitness and exercise. It’s not all or nothing. Moving to move is glorious.
Dessert:
Deconstructed ice cream almond butter cookie sandwich
Everyone has different goals, but if you’re feeling uninspired by your workouts maybe just find something that genuinely feels fun. Maybe it’s enjoying a nice long walk every day instead of sweating your face off. Maybe you like the social aspect of fitness and working out alone is slowly killing you. Join a studio and meet some new sweaty friends.
