Today’s Friday Freebie is something a little different. It’s a companion book for piano lessons compiled and written by American piano teacher, Elise Beckett Russell. Elise is the creator of The Piano Curriculum Series LLC, a helpful piano resource for teachers. Established in 2003, Elise has devised and built lesson plans and a graded curriculum designed to assist both teachers and pupils.
This piano curriculum is the only one of its type offering musicianship phases, assignment sheets, scales, theory, vocabulary and music appreciation, whilst allowing the individual to select their own repertoire. Piano pedagogy departments in major universities have adopted it as instructional material. Established piano teachers, home school parents and public school districts are also using this series to keep students on a graduated course ensuring a well-rounded music education. Although The Piano Lesson Companion Books were developed for the independent piano teacher to use within their studio, institutions and individuals have also embraced this series.
Today’s e-book has yet to be published, and it includes pentatonic scales, sight reading, transposition and vocabulary, all at the beginning level. It also contains the technical and musicianship phases of the Preparatory Level for the PCS Piano Proficiency Examinations; a unique testing system, allowing teachers to test anywhere and anytime their students are ready.
