Saint Brendan’s Irish Cream Liqueur

Grade: B

Teacher’s Comments: Smooth, rich and lightly sweet.

Cream liqueurs are a blend of cream and a liquor, most commonly a whiskey. They’re often used in coffee drinks, but also are good over the rocks. In the past, I’ve enjoyed Bailey’s, which seems to be the most commonly available brand. On a recent trip to the store, however, I spotted Saint Brendan’s and was intrigued by the shape of the bottle.

St. Brendan’s Irish Cream Liqueur has a smooth and rich taste, with hints of chocolate, vanilla and coffee. It is sweet, but not overly so. In comparison to Bailey’s, I think Saint Brendan’s is a bit less sweet and a bit less thick.

In any case, a cream liqueur is for me mostly a dessert, to be enjoyed when I want something rich and sweet, but not filling. Saint Brendan’s Irish Cream Liqueur fits the bill quite nicely.
