Use these 6 easy tips to get clearer, brighter, healthier skin, naturally!

Right about the time I started high school, my skin started rebelling, mostly in the form of acne. I’d have good years and bad years, but over time, I pretty much accepted that I would never have “great skin.” I tried medications, and prescription creams, but they were only temporary band-aids. So I kind of threw my hands up and stopped caring for the most part.
However, this year, as my perspective on overall wellness has broadened, taking care of the largest organ in my body has taken a much higher priority. It’s not just about having “nice skin” it’s about healing and caring for this essential part of our body inside and out.
In the past, I’d wash my face most nights, slap on some concealer in the morning and hope for the best. These days my routine is still far from perfect, but it involves a lot more preventative habits that have added up. Rather than feeling like a chore to take care of my skin, it feels like a treat.
My biggest piece of advice for all of it, is to be patient. For a lot of these things it’s all about consistency over time. And even when you do everything right sometimes that time of month rolls around and no amount of oils, collagen or Omega’s can halt the hormones. So stick with it, things will get better.

6 Simple Natural Skin Tips for a Clearer Face
1.) Face Masks
“Hi, my name is Georgie and I love face masks.” Seriously. I probably do a face mask around three times a week. I’ve noticed they make my skin softer and more vibrant. Once a week I’ll use an exfoliating mask, but not more because you don’t want to over exfoliate. These are my two favorites charcoal and chlorophyll.
2.) The Right Oils
When you have problematic skin, at first, oil seems a little counterintuitive. Like, no thanks, I’ve got enough oil, bye. But when you use too many products that dry your face, you strip it of it’s natural oils. Then your skin will over produce oil which leads to more clogged pores.
For those big nasty deep acne spots: Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is known to have anti bacterial and anti inflammatory properties which is a great natural way to fight those big gnarly spots.
For intense moisture: Coconut Oil
I usually only use this on my face if it’s crazy dry because it can clog pores. You can always apply it as a light mask and wash after 10 minutes.
For red patches and problematic spots: Sibu’s Sea Berry Seed Oil
For some reason my chin can get super dry with red patches. When that happens I’ll use a drop or two of Siby’s Sea Berry Seed Oil.
I found this great guide to face oils that has more on the topic.
3.) Wash Your Pillow Cases Regularly
True confession: I never used to wash my pillow cases nearly enough. I’m really really lazy when it comes to laundry, but this one does make a difference. Every day your face hits that pillow for at least 6-8 hours. Even if you’re squeaky clean when you hit the sack the dirt and bacteria will still add up. Now I try to wash about once a week. I do think it’s helped make a difference.
4.) Don’t. Touch. It.
Ugh. This is the hardest thing ever. If you have a spot on your face or back it’s almost impossible not to want to touch it and try to “fix it.” But in reality any damage control you try to do is really adding fuel to the fire. Spots can get infected easily and lead to more scarring. I definitely fall victim to this more than I’d like to admit, but when I do succeed it’s because I remember future Georgie will definitely thank me.
5.) Marine Collagen Supplement
If you happened to catch last week’s latest obsessions post then you might already know that collagen and I are BFF’s. Collagen is a type of protein that’s key to building skin, hair, nails, bones, joints and cartilage. As we get older our bodies stop producing as much collagen. Taking a collagen supplement helps give your body that extra boost. I’ve been drinking a scoop of Vital Protein’s Marine Collagen in my warm lemon water almost every morning. Over the past three weeks I have noticed a difference in my skin. I believe it’s a combination of all these efforts, but I won’t be slowing down the collagen train any time soon.
6.) Start from the Inside: Embrace Omega’s
Like I mentioned earlier, damage control is one thing, but giving your body a boost before hand will definitely help your skin glow in the long run (and that’s what’ we’re in it 4 right?). Recently I was introduced to the brand SIBU. It’s a line of beauty and skin care products made with sea berry (sea buckthorn) from the Himalayan highlands.
I’ve started taking the sea berry Omega 7 supplements. Sea buckthorn has one of the highest concentrations of plant based omega fatty acids, which makes it a suitable skin supplement for vegans and non-vegans alike.
Omega 7 is known to help skin by boosting natural collagen production, protecting against oxidative damage, protecting against environmental toxins and more. You can learn more about sea buckthorn here.
Honestly I feel like I’ve just embarked on an exciting new world of loving natural skin care. It was never something I really put much thought into, but I can see that taking care of your skin is a worth wile endeavor. Plus, as someone who has always been self conscious about her skin, being able to go out without a layer of concealer is an amazing feeling.
