Curiosity Over Judgement, Self-Compassion and Living a Unicorn Life with Alexis Joseph
I’ve been a fan of Alexis from the Hummusapien for a long time. It’s been incredible this year to see her work explode with passion and a vibrant enthusiasm to help and inspire women fall in love with their whole life, starting with their relationship with food.
Honestly it’s got me thinking there’s something in the water this year. So many women I’ve been following for years are waking up to a magical, more intuitive, creative, compassionate life in a huge way. Today’s conversation is all about how Alexis’s own shift towards intuitive eating helped open her up to a more intuitive and compassionate way of living.
We Talk About:
- Alexis’s journey to getting started with her blog Hummusapien & restaurant Alchemy Cafe
- How Alchemy is coming at health from both health extremes with the goal of approachability
- Why we share and teach what we need to learn
- How Alexis has grown from her clients
- Food issues reflecting deeper struggles in our lives
- Eating intuitively as the gateway to living intuitively
- Dieting is rooted in self-control while intuition is rooted in self-compassion
- Why it’s empowering to know that no one has it “all figured out”
- Why it’s ok to need help – in regards to eating
- How food and nutrition information can be interpreted in so many ways, there’s no one true answer the same way as religion and politics
- Alexis shares examples of intuitive eating in her life
- Why it’s important to acknowledge your your food rules and challenge where they came from
- When you listen to your body – you think about food less – free your mind for greater things
- Why we need to change out mindset around fitness from weight management to feeling good
- Your attitude around fitness matters more than your actual movement when it comes to health
- How self-compassion can unlock your intuition
- Understanding your true values to help let go of pieces of your past
- Finding ways to create a perspective shift
- How to find compassion with yourself when your body changes & why it’s ok to be upset about it
- Curiosity over judgement & how to handle comparison with curiosity
- How food freedom leads to stronger relationship
- Why being nicer to yourself helps you become nicer to others
- “Shit is not perfect, but I like it that way, and let’s talk about it”
