Michigan Golf League Championship Announces Title Sponsor for 2017: Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship

Myrtle Beach Becomes Sponsor of Michigan’s fastest growing golf event

Lansing, MI (May 19, 2017) – Michigan’s fastest growing golf event, the Michigan Golf League Championship (MI GLC), has reached an agreement with the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship, a 72-hole net stroke play event in Myrtle Beach SC.

That highly successful event has been named an official sponsor for the 2017 MI GLC season, and as part of the new relationship, Myrtle Beach becomes a title sponsor of the Michigan league program which has over 30,000 golfers registered for 2017.

“Myrtle Beach World Amateur is globally recognized and having them as a partner fits perfectly with the MI GLC fan and player base,” said Kate Moore, executive director of the Michigan Golf Course Owners Association, which manages the Michigan Golf League Championship. “We couldn’t be more excited to have them on board.”

More than 3,200 players from across America and 25-plus countries, all of them dreaming of earning the title of World Champion, are expected to compete in the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship. The event is open to all men and women 18 years of age and older, and players will be flighted based on age, gender and handicap.

“Myrtle Beach golf is recognized all over the country and is an iconic brand that everyone knows,” said MGCOA president Bill Fountain, who is the operating partner of The Majestic Golf Course in Hartland. “I’ve been involved with the Michigan Golf League Championship for fifteen years and am so excited that Myrtle Beach is investing in this amazing Michigan golf program. There are a handful of brands that really legitimize a golf program in Michigan and this is one of them.”

Jeff Monday, senior vice-president of Myrtle Beach World Amateur, said they are pleased to work with the Michigan Golf League Championship.

“We look forward to helping golf league players across Michigan enjoy this great sport of ours, and a little bit more,” he said.

The Golf League Championship will be played at Eagle Eye Golf Course in Bath on Sunday, Sept. 24. This championship golf property has hosted the MI GLC for the past 11 years. League golfers from across Michigan are invited to participate in match play with scoring handled by MI GLC’s technology provider Handicomp and the Golf League Network.
