LPGA stars in town for the LPGA Volvik Championship will play golf with female military veterans at the inaugural Selfridge Valor Cup pro-am on Monday, May 22. The Valor Cup is designed to help raise awareness of the needs of female veterans. The LPGA Volvik Championship is played Thursday, May 25 through Sunday, May 28 at Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor.
The Selfridge Valor Cup Pro-Am will be held at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base Golf Course near Mt. Clemens. The Valor Cup festivities will start at 11 a.m. that Monday with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start for the golf and a 5 p.m. dinner and awards program following. The event is part of the new partnership between the LPGA Volvik Championship and the Eisenhower Center, which is one of the nation’s leading treatment centers for veterans experiencing PTSD and TBI.
“The Eisenhower Center is one of the nation’s leading treatment centers for PTSD and TBI for our Veterans,” said Brigadier General Richard Miller (Ret) representing the Eisenhower Center. “We are proud to partner with the Volvik Championship and LPGA to honor our female veterans. The Eisenhower Center is privileged to give our female veterans a day of recognition.”
Headquartered in Ann Arbor, the Eisenhower Center is a residential center that focuses on rehabilitation for Traumatic Brain Injury. The center offers occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, psychotherapy, and speech and language training.
“Eisenhower Center is proud to offer this opportunity and touch the lives of the women who have served our country through our philosophy of Quiet Strength,” Eisenhower President John Cornack said.
High-ranking military officials are expected to attend the Valor Cup and celebrate the partnership of the LPGA Volvik Championship, Selfridge ANGB and the Eisenhower Center.
The U.S. Army Garrison-Detroit Arsenal’s Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation division runs the 18-hole Selfridge golf course. It was established in the late 1940s and is situated at the southeast end of the base flight line. A $2.6 million renovation project in October 1997 resulted in a full-service golf facility, including a practice facility.
Female military veterans interested in playing should contact the Eisenhower Center during business hours at 734-677-0070 or email lchirio@eisenhowercenter.com. Spots are limited.
