A weeks back, Tour Edge sent one of their Exotics Hybrids (EX10 #3) for testing. I’ve been playing with it in early spring Michigan conditions: generally cool, often wet, usually windy. Not exactly the ideal conditions for serious club testing. Nonetheless, here are a few of my early thoughts.
- The Tour Edge Exotics hybrid is powerful. The ball explodes off the face in a high, arcing flight. It is longer than my current (several years old) Cobra XL hybrid.
- I like the look from address. For my eye, it is neither too big nor too small.
- Out of the rough, or on the rather unevenly mowed and shaggy fairways of my local muni, the Tour Edge Exotics hybrid excels. Last season, I replaced all the fairway metals in my bag with hybrids when I realized that I hit hybrids nearly as well from the fairway and exponentially better from uneven lies and rough. I would love to add #2, #4 and #5 hybrids in the Tour Edge Exotics line to my bag.
- My game at this point in the season is far from sharp and I have unfortunately spent a lot of time in the woods. I have been very effective with this club in punching my ball back to the fairway. Its wavy-bottomed sole does a really good job of negotiating the sort of uneven lies I find under the trees.
- The waves on the bottom of the club require cleaning after every shot. I keep a broken tee handy.
