Famous Smoke online cigar store has created an interactive cigar and liquor pairings guide. Pick your poison, then answer a couple of questions and the site offers a cigar suggestion.
It is fun, but I wish that it was a bit more serious. After selecting a spirit from the choices of scotch, bourbon, rum, brandy and tequila, the site asks for a price range. Then it gets silly with the “What Are You Doing” question that offers choices such as “signing divorce papers” and “trimming your moustache.” Pick one of the six activity offerings, and the site offers a cigar pairing.
The information in the pairing, at least, is serious. Here’s the suggestion for a cigar to pair with a mid priced bourbon while you’re playing Texas Hold ‘Em
La Gloria Cubana Serie R No. 6
MSRP: $8.29 | Other La Gloria Cubana Cigars
“Dark and rich in flavor, featuring notes of coffee, cocoa, and hints of anise. Paired with a Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select, you pick up additional notes of vanilla, and hints of oak on a long finish.
When the weather warms up and I can actually sit on the back porch, I’m going to try a few of these pairings.
