An Elevated Approach to Nutrition – the Chasing Joy Podcast – Episode 3

On Episode 3 of the Chasing Joy Podcast we discuss what it means to take an evidence-based approach to nutrition and why mental and emotional health are an important part of the nutrition equation.

An Elevated Approach to Nutrition - the Chasing Joy Podcast - Episode 3

I’m positive that today’s episode of the Chasing Joy Podcast will put a big smile on your face. I had the pleasure of interview Lauren Rice a (very) soon-to-be practicing Registered Dietitian and total bad ass babe.

What I love about Lauren’s nutrition philosophy, and why I brought her on the show, is that her approach goes beyond calories and meal plans. Instead she focuses on how to help her clients build positive relationships with food and health so they can enjoy their lives fully. She also has an extensive training in evidence-based nutrition, which means no wishy washy cleanse-y, detox-y hocus pocus.

Lauren was so much fun to talk to. It’s clear from the conversation that she really loves helping women and the passion just exudes from her voice. I’m kind of sad I don’t live in Seattle right now because my past two guests who I want to be best friends with both live in Seattle… road trip maybe?

An Elevated Approach to Nutrition - the Chasing Joy Podcast - Episode 3

On this episode we dive deep into:

  • Lauren’s path to becoming a registered dietitian (and what that entails)
  • Why the adage “eat less and exercise more” is an incomplete picture of health
  • Why Lauren doesn’t focus on calories with her clients
  • We rant (hard core) about the diet industry
  • Explore the idea of health at every size
  • and we discuss what intuitive eating really means

This episode is great for anyone who:

  • Has had struggled (or is currently struggling) with disordered eating
  • Has felt overwhelmed by an abundance of nutrition information
  • Has lost touch with their ability to listen to their body’s hunger cues
  • Wants to learn more about becoming a nutrition and health professional
  • Has fallen into the diet industry trap
  • Wants a good laugh and isn’t afraid say they love a good piece of bread

All about @heyricecake’s take on nutrition – it’s about way more than calories
