Nikon Coolshot 80 VR Laser Range Finder
Nikon’s Coolshot 80 VR claims to solve my biggest issue with laser rangefinders: inaccurate readings from shaky hands.
The optical VR system reduces external vibrations, with the target mark on the rangefinder remaining stable, even when the body of the rangefinder is being moved. Nikon says that not only does this offer a steady image, it also stabilizes the activated laser, allowing it to maintain greater alignment for better measurement performance.
I suspect this is an offshoot of image stabilization in Nikon camera lenses.
Pressing and holding the power button causes the Coolshot 80 VR will continuously measure the range for a total of eight seconds. “Locked On Technology” helps distinguish between overlapping objects such as a flagstick with trees or other objects in the background. When the Locked On circle appears in the center of the reticle, the flag is on target..
