Golf Courses Opening All Over Michigan

Golf Courses Opening All Over Michigan

Golf Courses Opening All Over Michigan:

With weekend temperatures now expected to reach sixty, courses all over Michigan are opening for play. My email inbox currently is flooded with messages from area courses announcing an early opening.

School is on break for me next week, so I should be able to sneak in some more February rounds. I already got in a February round to extend my “consecutive months playing golf in Michigan” streak to 26, but there always is room on the calendar for more.

I wouldn’t expect too much this weekend. Fairways are certain to be soft and wet. Bunkers likely will be a mess. I seriously doubt that any greens are mowed. I find that in February and March all I’m really doing is shaking off winter rust. I’m trying to get my swing back in a good place. I concentrate on turning and making good contact. Scoring and distance will come as the weather warms.

As much as I’ve enjoyed the relatively mild weather this winter, I can’t help but think that Mother Nature is planning some sort of revenge in March or April. Southeastern Michigan’s biggest recorded snowstorm was 24.5 inches on April 6, 1886. A foot fell on March 3 – 4, 1895. In 2014, the first week in March set a record for low temperatures.

My recommendation: Take advantage of the warming while you can. Check with your local course to see if they’re open.
