Michigan Golf News

Some random Michigan Golf News …

  • Three golfers with Big Ten ties are participating in the Meijer LPGA Classic: Allyson Geer of Michigan State, Megan Kim of the University of Michigan, and August Kim of Purdue.
  • Two Michigan golfers have qualified for the US Senior Open: Tom Harding, a pro at the Kendall Academy at Miles of Golf in Ypsilanti and Kevin Muir, director of golf at The Wyndgate in Rochester Hills. Harding is a former Michigan State Golfer and has twice been GAM Player of the Year. This will be Muir’s second US Senior Open in three years.
  • Chad Johnson of Westland and Jordan Andrus of Pinckney advanced to the round of 16 in the US Amateur Four Ball team tournament on May 30. One hundred twenty eight teams entered the tournament. The pair failed to make it to the next round, however, losing to eventual champions Frankie Capan and Shuai Ming Wong 5 and 3. The US Amateur Four Ball Championship replaced the US Amateur Public Links Championship on the USGA rota.
  • One of my favorite courses, the Indian River Golf Club, has thrown in its lot with the “Gaylord Golf Mecca” marketing cooperative. The Gaylord Golf Mecca represents 15 courses and 17 lodging facilities.
