Odds To Win The Open Championship 2017 – June 5 Edition

Odds To Win The Open Championship 2017 - June 5 EditionIn spite of missing the cut at the Memorial, Dustin Johnson is the clear favorite among bettors in the odds to win the Open Championship 2017. Coming in at 7/1, Johnson has all the skills necessary to win at the 2017 Open Championship at at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England. Players who want to get into the action on this, or other sports events can use this Twinspires promo code.

Currently ranked #1 in FedEx Cup and OWGR standings, Johnson has wins this year at the WGC-Dell Match Play, the WGC-Mexico and the Genesis Open.

Mirroring the betting odds at the upcoming US Open at Erin Hills, Rory McIlroy is in second for the Open Championship at 9/1. McIlroy is winless in 2017, but finished T4 at the HSBC Championships and at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He missed the Memorial this past week with a rib injury.

In at 10/1 and third, Jordan Spieth has had an up-and-down year by his own standards. Although he has a win at Pebble Beach, Spieth has had too many early round miscues to give himself the best chances to win. His t2 at the Dean & Deluca came only after an epic weekend charge to get back into position. If his putting and short game are on, however, there is no one better.

Jason Day finds himself at 12/1 among bettors. When he’s healthy, Day is a complete player. He does, however, seem to be somewhat snakebit. There always seems to be something going on with Day.  He is to blame for none of his varied unfortunate circumstances, and to be praised for rising above them … but still, from a betting point of view, there likely are better odds.

Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia round out the top five.

It will be hard for Stenson to top last year’s ball striking perfection on his way to a win in the epic duel with Phil Mickelson. It also has been eleven years since the last time there was a back-to-back Open Championship winner (Tiger Woods, naturally).  To find one before that, you need to go back to Tom Watson in 1982-83. Stenson is a fine player, but is no Woods or Watson. A repeat from Stenson is therefore unlikely.

Sergio Garcia, also in at 16/1 is riding the odds wave created by his first Major win at The Masters. He has come close in the Open Championship before, with seconds in 2007 and 2014. Last year, he had a T5. A multiple major year is not out of the question for the former wunderkind.
